Fluid Dynamics
WAVE - State-of-the-art one dimensional (1D) gas dynamics simulation tool for engine performance and acoustic analysis
- New acoustic elements and a new acoustic solver task allow the user to run acoustic acquisitions within R-Desk and generate sound source data. This is fully integrated with our state-of-the-art post-processing tool, R-Post. With R-Post, plots such as Campbell diagrams, order cuts and frequency response can be easily created. R-Post can also export and play audio files (.wav)
- A new predictive model for estimating mechanical friction requiring no engine test data is available. The friction model can be used either in co-simulation or standalone modes. It is a perfect starting point for engine projects where friction information is not widely available. It is based on semi-empirical models validated against numerous passenger car engines. Therefore, it is easy to set up and (because it only requires a few geometric inputs), and the simulations have exceptionally fast run times
- Portions of WAVE models can be saved in an encrypted format improving the privacy and security of models shared between groups/companies

VECTIS - 3D CFD tool can be used to model complex physics of combustion and thermal systems ensuring robust designs
- With R-Viewer, it is now possible to show the difference between two 3D data sets
- Increased accuracy with improved near wall refinement for cartesian meshes
- The user can utilize FEA results from FEARCE to specify the wall boundary conditions resulting in high fidelity simulations. Either the heat flux or temperature distribution can be imported
- Significant solution time improvement (approx. 10%) can be achieved using the new mixed-precision solver. The user can optimize simulation accuracy and solution run-time
- In VECTIS, the user can quickly setup and run geometries such as rotary engines, spool valves and two-stroke engines using the new Dynamic Zones
- Fidelity simulation was significantly increased by the addition of several additional physical models

Structural Mechanics
The essential suite to design, analyse and optimise mechanical systems in terms of friction, durability and NVH
SABR - a proven shaft, gear and bearing conception and design package
- SABR is now available for Linux. This improves its ability to run on commercial clusters for optimisation analysis and integration with cloud-based computing
VALDYN - a multi-body dynamic and kinematic simulation package specifically developed for valvetrain and drive-system analysis and cam and spring pack design
- A new consolidated force element that can be angle and angular velocity dependent at the same time has been developed. It includes an extra connection so that action and reaction forces are applied by one element only. These enhancements together make a simple representation of an e-motor easier to set-up
ENGDYN - Accurate engine design and analysis from initial concept to final production
- The mapping of the piston forces in ENGDYN can now use the exact contact pressure distribution as calculated by piston secondary motion analysis in PISDYN. It makes the ENGDYN simulation and a subsequent stress or NVH analysis more accurate
- Significative speed-up of the elastohydrodynamic (EHD) bearing calculation with free-free dynamic block. Now, it is reduced with just radial degree-of-freedoms when before it used three
PISDYN & RINGPAK - The most powerful tool for piston design and optimisation; from initial concept to final design, and the efficient predict ring-pack dynamics, lubrication and increased durability
- R-Post sessions for PISDYN are written automatically into standard reports to improve the post-processing effort by the user. There are six specific reports within the tool created at the end of the analysis
Systems Engineering
IGNITE enables complex modelling and simulation of systems and sub-systems with comprehensive application-specific libraries
- More efficient ways to build models on the canvas improving the speed and quality of the models built, such as:
- Components added to the canvas using a mouse double-click followed by selecting a desired component from the pop up dialog window
- Improved full text search for the library components
- Validation routine reporting unconnected elements by their labels
- Easy to distinguish between the different physical domain connections on the modelling canvas using specific colours for the various physical domains, following the Modelica Standard Library convention
- Improvements in Ricardo Software libraries:
- Traction control can use engine and brake demand combined applicable to high acceleration experiments while steering and/or climbing
- The user can model a simplified pump or leakage using the new component in the Thermofluid Library which enables modelling of the flow modification based on external conditions
